*Spoiler Warning for Eternals!*

Eternals is Marvel’s new gang of superhumans, replacing the well-known Avengers series. Part of stage four, of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, The Eternals, first appeared in the 2008 paperback book by Jack Kirby. The fiction action film has now been produced as a 200 million dollar movie, released November 5, 2021. The movie stars Angelina Jolie and Harry Styles in his first movie as Starfox. Its cast helped the movie to be a hit in the theaters accumulating 402 million USD at the box office.

The team of 10 Eternals, Thena, Sersi, Ikaris, Ajak, Druig, Gilgamesh, Makkari, Kingo, Sprite, and Phastos, are a group of extraterrestrial humanoids controlled by Arishem the Judge — a celestial being who is also known as the “killer of planets.” The team was placed on Earth to protect the human race from the deviants. These are animal-like, genetic off-shoots of races that the celestials have experimented with. However, after supposing by succeeding and wiping out the deviants the group separates to live human lives. Each goes on to try and live with the humans, be it becoming a movie star or living in the Amazon jungle.  The movie’s plot revolves around the knowledge that the Eternals and Earth have reached the necessary population after the “blip” (from past movies) in order to birth a new celestial, which requires a certain amount of soul from living beings to be born. Each of the Eternals has unique powers and abilities such as finger guns, flight, laser beams, or illusions causing some very entertaining fight scenes against the deviants who want to kill the Eternals and gain their powers and strengths or even against themselves. However, they also all have different views about the destruction of Earth and all beings on it which is referred to as the “emergence” in the movie. Ikaris, who is a want-to-be superman, is known to the group as the “strongest,” and seen as a leader until the film unveils that he is loyal to Arishem and accepting of the emergence. Due to this, the team is torn apart. Only Sprite and Ikaris are in support of the emergence. The rest of the Eternals, led by Sersi, attempt to overpower and stop the emergence; the gang comes to grips with the fact that Ikkaris is not going to help and they come up with a plan to stop the emergence.

When thinking about watching this movie, be reassured that there isn’t any need for background information in order to understand the film. It world-builds well by explaining the background of the Eternal’s purpose throughout the film. It’s easy to follow the movie as it unfolds into a surprising ending. The ending has one of my favorite fight scenes. The characters in the film are always joking and teasing each other, making them relatable and less dull than some other hero films. The movie scored 48% on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 78% audience score. It’s a fair score due to the film’s humor and action. After I finished the film, I would say it is definitely worth watching if you are a fan of Marvel and into superhuman action movies. With the Eternals being of the newest movies of the MCU, it is exciting to see what will come after this film.
