A SUMMER’S FAREWELL

A+SUMMERS+FAREWELL

A bush collecting snow within its leaves

As snow begins to fall, we’ve learned to adopt the meaning of winter’s arrival, and as snow begins to settle within our surroundings we can acknowledge winter’s beginning in the year. Seeing fully green plants harbor this early snow is a wonderful foreshadowing of a beautiful winter to come.

One of the most tell-tale signs of winter is cloudy, mellow skies throughout the season. While some find cloudy skies bleak or dispiriting, I find them calming and mellow. In my opinion, there’s no better feeling than enjoying time with loved ones inside while winter brews above.

While rain might not be what comes to mind when you think of winter, it’s just a little warmer version of snow. In my opinion, rain will always be one of the most interesting things to photograph as rain can make lots of patterns, movements, shapes and forms. Rain like this is almost like a sample of winter, a reminder to those of what’s to soon come in the season.

Plants have known winter far longer than any person has. Because of this, plants have learned how to quickly adapt to the conditions of the upcoming winter (and at times, better than mammals). While I’m sure we understand the importance of plant life…it’s fascinating to see how, like us, they learn, adapt, and survive.

The first snowfall of every year is always a special day for me – this year has been no exception. The way snow settles in around us outside just makes everything feel that much more cozy. The color palette snow brings is a nice, calming blue, which is not only easy on the eyes, but gives a really relaxed vibe for the season.
