Background Knowledge
On September 8, 2025, Hernandez Rivas Hernandez (age 14) was found dismembered in the front trunk of singer and songwriter d4vd’s (age 21) Tesla. Authorities found that Hernandez had been officially deceased since May 5, 2025.
Hernandez and d4vd had a long history together leading all the way back to when they first met in January 2022, at the time Hernandez was 11 and d4vd was 17. In November of 2023, their sexual relationship sparked, and this was when Hernandez was 13 and d4vd was 18.
Following the start of their new relationship, Hernandez was reported missing for the first time. Hernandez had been officially declared missing three times in the span of February to April 2024. Her first report took place on February 15, 2024, and her last report was on April 5, 2024.
When authorities contacted d4vd while Hernandez was missing the first time, he stated that he never saw her and had last spoken to her two days prior. Hernandez returned home two days later.
Throughout the duration of 2024, Hernandez was reported missing one last time never to be seen by her family again. While Hernandez was missing, she was known to have turned 14 years old and still spent a lot of her time with d4vd. They went on multiple trips together, and d4vd even took her to meet his family in Texas.
However, in November 2024, it is reported that the couple had split. Even after the split, d4vd and Hernandez remained in communication and continued to have sexual relations. In recent findings from prosecutors, there was a text sent during March 2025 from Hernandez that stated, “All we do is have sex and just hang out man, I want more than that for myself”.
The Romantic Homicide
Hernandez was last heard from on April 23, 2025, when d4vd sent an Uber to pick Hernandez up from her home. Hernandez arrived at 10:10pm, later d4vd sent her a message asking where she was, it was 10:30, and by then Hernandez was already stabbed to death.
During the days following her murder d4vd continued to attempt to reach her, however, he quit texting her on April 24, 2025.
On April 24, 2025, d4vd purchased a shovel off of Postmates. A week later he purchased two chainsaws under a fake name, four days later he bought heavy duty laundry bags, a body bag, and a blue inflatable pool under his fake name yet again.
Prosecutors stated that they believe on the same day those items last arrived is when Hernandez was mutilated and put in the Tesla. Her body was ultimately dismembered, and everything but two of her fingers were found. One finger allegedly having d4vds name tattooed upon it.
On July 7, 2025, d4vd purchased a burn cage to allegedly dispose of his evidence, this was under the same fake name he previously used. 22 days later he parked his Tesla where it got towed to the lot where Hernandez would be found three months later.
Hernandez had originally threatened to speak out about the sexual abuse that she had been facing from d4vd for years on end. This is allegedly said to be what caused d4vd’s breaking point. As a result of their large argument, in order to save his career, d4vd allegedly murdered Hernandez, making it the ultimate “Romantic Homicide”.
The “Subtle” Foreshadowing
For years leading up to Hernandez’s ultimate murdered, d4vd had been singing and releasing songs with vivid descriptions about homicides, and releasing music videos with scenes depicting mutilations and death.
One specific song that foreshadowed the events is Romantic Homicide. This song was released in 2022, around seven months after the couple had met. The song has lyrics that include “In the back of my mind, you died and I didn’t even cry” and “In the back of my mind, I killed you”.
This song is arguably what launched d4vds career, and at the time, the song was considered one of the best at the time. However, this song did not age well, as now that the case regarding himself and Hernandez’s murder is in full swing it is making fans wonder if this was the plan all along.
Romantic Homicide isn’t the only song with signs of distress in dv4ds discography or visual media. In 2023, there was an unreleased song that was leaked by d4vd, its title “Celeste”. Throughout the song he sings of how much he loves this girl named “Celeste”.
While the song title seems disturbing, the music video is even worse. In the music video, which is an anime style, d4vds alter ego Itami is seen with a girl who is meant to be Celeste. In this video Itami stabs and dismembers Celeste’s body in a state of rage.
The discovery of this song at the time was regarded very lightly and the whole situation had d4vd fans wanting more music to be released as soon as possible. This song was never released, and now many are saying that fans and others ignored the signs of harm.
It is also significant to explain that in most of d4vd’s music videos the main female roles were always cast to look somewhat like Hernandez, sparking even more conspiracies about his infatuation or obsession with this teenage girl.
One More Dance, another song released by d4vd two days after Hernandez’s murder, was one most loved on his newest album. However, in this music video d4vds alter ego is shown stuffing d4vd’s body into the trunk of a car. This is similar to how Hernandez was found months later.
What Happens Now?
D4vd’s preliminary court hearing originally scheduled for May 29, 2026, has now been pushed back to June 29, 2026. This is due to the LA District Attorney Office needing more time to go through the substantial and what seems like never-ending evidence that includes 40 terabytes of child pornography and more data that keeps coming with the investigation.
