The Montana Junior Senator, Tim Sheehy, is currently under fire for a recent video clip of him that went viral for all the wrong reasons.
In this video, Sheehy forcibly removes a veteran who was protesting the current war in Iran at the Senate of Armed Service Committee meeting on March 4, 2026. Around the middle of the video, there appears to be a cracking sound, which was assumed to be the veteran’s hand breaking.
Sheehy happens to be one of the senators who are a part of the Senate Armed Service Committee. This committee has oversight of the United States military and they were having a hearing about military readiness while this incident occurred.
However, this is not the first time Sheehy has been under social media’s spotlight for negative reasons. During his first political run in June 2023, his opposing runners would send ads to sources like YouTube and cable television. In these ads, they would state all of Sheehy’s flaws, and he was coined “Shady Sheehy”.
Sheehy was a very controversial topic in the political world in Montana at the time because he was from Ramsey, Minnesota and not a local Montanan. He was also considered “shady” because he has inconsistent stories on how he got his gunshot wounds.
As well as having shady business practices, questionable ideas on selling land, being rich and from out of state, and having many conflicts of interest, it leads to the fact that this man is shady.
In fact, Sheehy has been under a significant amount of shade online because of this video. When Sheehy went to social media platform X, he stated why he got involved with the veteran, saying it was in order to “de-escalate the situation”.
Sheehy also continued to explain how the man went to the capital “looking for a confrontation” and that “he got one”. Due to his insensitive comments, especially regarding serious injuries that he caused, he faced even more backlash from the public due to his lack of empathy, as well as his harsh tone when he gave a rather blunt statement about the veteran being an “unhinged protestor”.
This veteran, Brian McGinnis, is a former U.S. Marine. He went to the hearing of military readiness in attempts to protest against the ongoing war in Iran. It is known that when he was at the meeting, he started by yelling, “Israel is the reason for this war; America does not want to fight this war for Israel”.
Due to his yelling and protest, officers surrounding the event attempt to forcefully remove him from the meeting. In an attempt to stand his ground, McGinnis stuck his hand through the door in order to anchor himself in the room.
This is where Sheehy joined the picture. Sheehy ran to help “de-escalate” the situation. This scene continued to get increasingly more forceful and violent. As the officers and Sheehy attempted to pull McGinnis out of the door, McGinnis continued to protest.
Eventually there was a loud snap and McGinnis’ arm broke.
Now, McGinnis is charged with three counts of assault against the police officers and for resisting arrest.
This violence isn’t new to the U.S.. This has been seen before in many instances such as George Floyd’s death and police brutality, the LA riots surrounding Rodney King, and even the KKK during the reconstruction of the United States.
The United States is meant to support the American dream, where people can come and live a free life. Where people can feel as if they belong and can find more economic or educational opportunities, but most of all, feel accepted and have their own personal opinions without being punished for them.
If citizens of the United States cannot speak their truths, fight for what they feel is right, practice their own religion, speak their own language, and be themselves without feeling like they will be punished or injured, what is the point of America being a place for them to be “free”?
