WINTER’S WONDERS

MmMm Tasty Snow

Some lovely snow dunes Sentinel’s front lawn

While snow might be a burden for some, others may think of it as a gift, such as myself. While it may not be all too fun to drive in, it sure is pretty as it turns the town into a beautiful white desert wonderland. There’s nothing quite like waking up to a fresh layer of snow, or getting cozy while snow rains down outside. Isn’t it a wonderful time to be? With all these beautiful wonders to see?

An adorable bird taking refuge in Sentinel’s vine wall

These birds love to linger and hang around Sentinel’s more green areas and are truly a sight to see. Seeing wildlife around campus makes me feel more in touch with the world in general. Being able to share our campus with these creatures is truly a treasure. To me, at least, they present a more calming environment around the campus.

Winter integrating itself into abandoned shelving

I love seeing things like this around campus: nature moving back into our campus, whether it be in small instances like grown on shelving or one of our vine walls that cover the main building’s outer walls. I believe that letting nature move back into some of the campus is a very good thing as we begin to see nature creep back into our lives, even when we’re deep in our own concrete jungle.

A leaf contrasting the ice of a lovely winter.

During winter, nature is either with it or against it… both in beautiful ways. In this case, nature being against winter came to be a wonderful contrast as it is highlighted by the white of winter. When nature’s beauty and winters beauty clash, it is always a treat to see. This leaf is one of many, many examples.

A beautiful sunrise complementing my little forest

Seeing this view every morning on my way to the bus stop is nothing short of delightful. I believe that this picture perfectly encapsulates winter in Montana, pretty snow with a nice highlight coming from the sun facing the mountains. It’s always been a pleasure to start my day off with a view as wonderful as this one. Thank you, winter.

A older, cozy version of my room

This picture is very personal to me (in a good way of course). This picture of my room at the time of late 2020 was one of most cozy phases my room had ever been in. While it is much cozier now, this picture is very nostalgic to me as the snow covered environment. The mixture of winter and comfort in this photo makes me realize just how special winter can be, along with how fortunate I am to be able to enjoy it.

A photo of me with a rather photogenic deer

It seems the local deer enjoy winter just as much as I do…at least this one does. While seeing animals on campus isn’t exactly a rarity, seeing a deer (especially one who lets you get a selfie) most definitely is. Now I’m not superstitious or anything, but something tells me this is another one of winter’s wonderful doings. May we get a gracious round of applause for this handsome fawn?

What was the message of these photos? The moral? Well, there isn’t one…not directly at least. I wanted to show you the good that winter can bring. Does that mean that winter is 100% good? Absolutely not. Many people often fear or dislike winter due to its environmental effects and damage it could possibly cause. But winter is much like a coin, there is another side. If you look past the bad, you’ll be easily overwhelmed with the good. I hope these photos helped show winter from my perspective, and I hope you all have a wonderful Winter.
