Bo Burnham has the best special on Netflix.

Inside is an absolute masterpiece, and according to the multiple Emmy Award nominations I’m not the only one who thought so. Just to show you how well done the special is, and to save you the trouble of a Google search, here are the 6 nominations as well as the 3 wins. Don’t thank me all at once.

Naturally, all of those are deserved. Now let me tell you why. 

First of all, for a little background, Bo Burnham is a comedian, musician, writer, director, and filmmaker. He began his career in 2006 on Youtube but soon expanded with the release of his first directed movie Eighth Grade in 2018 and now Inside having been released last May. 

Now, let’s talk Inside. 

Inside is a Netflix special written, directed, filmed, edited, and starred by Bo Burnham. It was recorded in his house in Los Angeles, California during the first COVID-19 lockdown without a crew or an audience. Just him and his camera, as he likes to say. 

Anyways, the first time that I was able to watch this special was when I was visiting a friend in Texas during the summer. She was supposed to get her parent’s permission to watch it beforehand, but whatever. It’s too late now. T be honest with you and say that I most likely fell asleep during the 82 minutes that the special runs. However, I recently got a chance to rewatch it. And wow. Holy crap. What a phenomenal thing to watch.

Burnham talks (sings) the audience through his comedic and depressive thoughts while he was stuck in quarantine. He does this in the form of self-composed songs, obviously. With the most memorable ones being the infamous Jeff Bezos tune that took over Tik Tok a few months ago, “Welcome to The Internet” that pokes fun at the interwebs, and the intro song “Comedy” about an American white man wanting to change the world. It’s wonderful.

Out of all of the comedies and specials taking up space on Netflix, Inside has to be one of the best. I will be leaving no room for argument. If you, for some outlandish reason, have not taken the time to watch this valuable contribution to entertainment…I beg of you. Take a minute, sit on the couch, and enjoy the best hour-or-so of your life. I promise that at least half of you won’t regret it.
